Trainer/driver Keith Jones has officially announced the retirement of 13-year-old trotter Abbey Road C, a career winner of $2,043,632

.

Abbey Road C, a son of Incredible Abe--Jayport Whimsey, was purchased as a yearling for $11,000 by owner Mary Charlton and was conditioned by Jones throughout his entire career.

“He was just getting up there in age and we decided to call it a career,” said Jones. “He was such a terrific horse to have. A once in a lifetime horse and he’ll forever have a home.”

The gelding, who has made 66 career trips to the winner’s circle, took his lifetime mark of 1:52.4 as a four-year-old.

In 2009, Abbey Road C became just the sixth Ontario-sired trotter to surpass $2 million in earnings with his win in the Xtreme Rewind at Georgian Downs.

An Ontario Sires Stakes graduate, Abbey Road C captured the Frank Ryan Memorial Trot, The Honourable Earl Rowe Cup along with multiple Preferred and Open victories on the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit. His biggest payday came in 2003 when he trotted to a third-place finish in the $1.08-million Breeders Crown, collecting $129,729.

“That was just an incredible evening and probably my favourite memory of him,” Jones said of the 2003 'Crown' effort. “To compete against the very best older trotters in the world and finish third is quite an honour.”

Tim

He was a European style trotter racing on North American race tracks

My memory fades, but it was the Abbey who had some nice prices at Kawartha Downs.Always with Jones behind him for the big scores.Hope he likes retirement.

He was such a pleasure to watch in his winning days. He made racing look enjoyable and easy. I hope he has many years of green pastures and good health.

What a lovely horse and was a joy to watch. Always loved his ability to get off the gate so fast. I hope he has a very long and peaceful retirement, he deserves it.

I suggest that Georgian Downs rename the 'Rewind" to the "Abbey Road C" trot!
We'll sure miss watching this great warrior!

I certainly agree, to race against the best most of the times for the last 10yrs, he should be in the hall of fame. Enjoy the retirement "C".

Watched Abbey race many times and he was a gutsy warrior who came to battle every start...definitely worthy and belongs in the Hall Of Fame...Enjoy your retirement

Yes, I agree, Todd. Abbey Road C deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Congrats to Abbey and his connections on a great career and enjoy your retirement! You've certainly earned it!
