Trailing by 7-1/2 lengths at the half, Shady Matilda unleashed her characteristic brush that nailed the leader and carried her to victory — her third in the last four starts — in Monday’s $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows

With Spring Break on a comfortable lead, Brett Miller sent Shady Matilda uncovered on her mission. The eight-year-old daughter of Shady Character-Shore Drive hooked Spring Break in the stretch and held off the Lightning Lane thrust of Natalie to down that rival by a neck in 1:54.1. Spring Break saved show.

James Perry, Jr. trains Shady Matilda, who pushed her career bankroll north of $200,000, for Joann Perry. It was one of five wins on the 15-race card for Miller.
