Odds-on Weona Sizzler A made a successful first trip to the adult table Saturday, Dec. 8 winning Yonkers Raceway’s $44,000 Open Handicap Pace.
Pocketed from post position five to Gokudo Hanover through intervals of :27.1, :56 and 1:24, Weona Sizzler A found room passing the three-quarters when a first-up Soho Lennon A backed away.
Gokudo Hanover owned a length lead into the lane but could not stall his intruder. Weona Sizzler A rolled right by, widening to win by that length in a life-best 1:52.1. Gokudo Hanover saved second, with Christen Me N, Voracity and Bettor Memories settling for the remainder.
For Weona Sizzler A, a five-year-old Down Under Bettors Delight gelding co-owned (as Harmon Racing) by (trainer) Rob Harmon and Seth Rosenberg Racing, it was his eighth win in 18 seasonal starts (five wins and three seconds in eight North American tries). Jordan Stratton paid $2.90 to win. The exacta paid $25.40, the triple returned $131.50 and the superfecta paid $646.
There is no Sunday matinee this time around, the final one wrapping the season Dec. 16, with first post the ever-popular TBA.
