After having been hammered down to the odds-on choice for Truro Raceway’s $1,675 Winners-Over Pace on Sunday (Dec. 9), Ramblinglily did what she does best: Win.
Allan Jones’ game daughter of Articulator lined up in Post 5 for Truro’s featured dash (Race 6), and that was the closest the rest of her rivals would get to her.
Even though the temperature was –10 Celsius and the ‘good’ track was given a two-second allowance in time, the eight-year-old mare knew she had a job to do – and she did it well.
Todd Trites had Ramblinglily ($2.70) on her toes from the word ‘go’, as the duo shot off the gate to lead the rest of the field down to the quarter pole in :27.4
Trites and his mount had it their way through the middle half of the mile. They passed the second stanza in :59.3 before Electric Syl (driven by Robert Laffin) came calling with a strong first-up move from fifth.
Electric Syl, who was still leading the overland charge, was just one and one quarter lengths in arrears as Ramblinglily froze the three-quarters clock in 1:31.
Paul Langille and Rusty Riley made a move from the pocket before the head of the lane, as they put forth their best bid to collar Ramblinglily. The public’s choice, however, would have none of it.
Rambinglily kept on truckin’ in the final quarter, though, as she came home in :29.3 and disposed of Rusty Riley by one length at the wire. The win time was 2:00.3.
After having started from Post 1, the Dale Spence-driven Distinctiv Rusty sat third along the rail in the dash and ended up finishing third, beaten by five and a quarter lengths.
Breeder Allan Jones, who trains the mare, also co-owns Ramblinglily along with fellow breeder Normand Leger.
