Six Bax, who has proved to be one of the most dominant claiming trotters in recent weeks, racked up yet another victory during Monday’s evening’s 10-race card at Woodbine Racetrack.
The five-year-old son of Kadabra-Bax Machine had won three of his last four assignments for Team Baillargeon, and he tacked on another triumph thanks to his 1:55.1 score in Monday’s lid lifter.
Mario Baillargeon powered to the lead with the Ben Baillargeon-trained gelding, and together they led the group past the quarter pole in :26.4. A charged up Meadowview Arny muscled to the lead in the backstretch, however, and he went on to supply the field with middle panels of :55.1 and 1:24.1. Those big fractions took their toll on the leader, who made a break in the lane and wound up finishing up the track.
Six Bax inherited the lead in the lane and used a :30-second closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over race favourite Escuela. Justalittlefaster rallied from next-to-last to finish third in the $10,000 affair.
John Newell of Waterloo and Ryan Rozema of Elmira, Ontario share ownership on the 16-time winner who owns a 7-1-2 record from 28 trips to the track this season. The trotter has banked just shy of $44,000 this year. His lifetime earnings stand at $140,143.
