The Lakeshore Horse Racing Association’s general manager and treasurer, Wayne Martinuik, has said that he is pleased with the composition of the 14-date schedule that the Ontario Racing Commission has granted LHRA to operate live racing at Leamington Raceway in 2015.
As an article by The Windsor Star explains, Martinuik has said that the Sunday schedule is better than the Saturday-Sunday schedule that LHRA offered this past meet.
The 14-date schedule will kick off on August 2. There will be live racing at Leamington every Sunday until October 25. The organization will also host a card of live racing on Monday, September 7.
In speaking of the 2015 schedule, Martinuik told The Windsor Star that “It’s absolutely better,” adding that in 2014 the organization was kind of forced into the schedule where racing at Leamington took place on Saturdays and Sundays. “This is more spread out, it’s better for the patrons.”
Martinuik also added that attendance and handle at the track thrived on Sundays during the 2014 meet. “We had much better attendance on Sundays than we did on Saturdays,” he said. “Our wager was double on Sundays.”
