He reluctantly had to scratch Somebeachsomewhere from the Matron Stakes eliminations due to a fever, but Brent MacGrath has said that the superstar pacer's health is currently on the upswing.

A temperature of 102.8 and a cough forced MacGrath to scuttle plans to see 'The Beach' truck to Dover Downs to contest the Matron elims, captured by Dali and Blueridge Western.

“He seems to be on the mend now,” MacGrath was quoted as saying in a report by thechronicleherald.ca.

“It’d be too stressful,” MacGrath said, referring to the roughly four-hour trip from Middletown, New York to Dover. “There was no way I was going to put his health in jeopardy. We’ve made all of the decisions so far based on him and doing what’s best for him so we won’t change now.”

In regard to the Standardbred Canada initiative to get Somebeachsomewhere considered for the 2008 Lou Marsh Award as Canada's athlete of the Year, MacGrath said that his Mach Three colt is worthy of any award. “He’s truly a great, great athlete,” he said.

Brent:
Congrats for sticking to another super decision. You have managed this horse all year
with the horse's best interest in the forefront. You were so lucky to have such a
most respected and great driver for The Beach as well. We will miss watching this amazing animal race but we will have memories forever and will now look with great
excitment to his offsprings. You will without a doubt win every award going for this
wonderful horse.Sorry about the Lou Marsh but we all know The Beach is a true athlete.

More stables with good horses should take note on Brent's management skills! Bravo!

Brent made the right decision to scratch Beach from the Matron Stakes elim and let him recover from the fever and cough. Besides, he's worked so hard this season,he deserves a good rest. I'm disappointed he did not win the Lou Marsh award and on behalf of all Beach fans, we hope he gets to win all upcoming awards for his performance in 2008.

Thanks to SBSW & all of his connections for an absolutely tremendous career! It has been a thrill to follow this magnificent animal & witness his extraordinary accomplishments.I was disappointed ,as I'm sure many were, that he was unable to race in the Matron elims. but consideration for the horse's health & well-being are far more important than any race.Enjoy your new career,Beach!

GOOD CALL MY FRIEND, YOU DID RIGHT BY THE HORSE ALL THE WAY . I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF GREAT ONES AND BEACH WEEK IN WEEK OUT IS THE BEST I,VE EVER SEEN. I DON,T KNOW IF A LOT OF PEOPLE NOTICED BUT A LOT OF HORSES WHO FACED HIM WERE NEVER THE SAME AFTER , WHAT A MONSTER . GOD BLESS HIS VERY EXISTANCE. THE GAME NEEDED A HERO, WHAT A BOY, YOU GOT TO LOVE HIM.

My hats off to you Brent for looking out for the Champs health before greed and fame. I hope to see many Owners/Trainers just like you. As we say you only have one chance at everything. Congrats and I hope SBSW will come out strong and start seeing his little champs. Thank you for a great year and for a great job you and your helpers did for the harness industry.
