Jack Vernon rallied to win the featured conditioned trot at Dover Downs on Tuesday night (Dec. 8).
Jack Vernon and driver Corey Callahan left alertly and were able to sit behind pacesetter Northern Express, who set fractions of :28, :57.3 and 1:25.4. Whimsical Chapter trotted first up and coverless, pressuring the leader Northern Express through a :28.1 third quarter. Callahan and Jack Vernon then surged along the open stretch to win by a nose in 1:54.1 at odds of 7/2.
Jack Vernon is owned by Howard Taylor and Mike Casalino Jr. Dylan Davis trains the son of Muscle Hill.
Northern Express, who set a track record two starts ago at Dover Downs and had his four-race win streak end, finished second for trainer Arty Foster Jr. Russell Foster drove. Whimzical Chapter was third for trainer Josh Green and driver Tim Tetrick.
