An 0-for-8 night at the office generally wouldn’t be reason to celebrate, but that wasn’t the case for driver Louis Philippe Roy on Thursday evening at Woodbine Racetrack.
The native of Quebec pledged his Thursday evening earnings to assist Moisson Mitis - a local food bank in his hometown of Mont-Joli - and despite going winless he managed to generate a donation of $850 thanks in large part to five second-place finishes.
“Christmas time is my favourite time of the year,” said Roy. “I get to spend good time with family and friends. So if I can help other people enjoy a good time during Christmas it makes me really happy.”
Roy, who earned the Future Star Award at the 2016 O’Brien Awards, is in the midst of wrapping up his best season ever. With 355 wins and purse earnings in excess of $5.5 million for 2017, he clearly has earned the label ‘Future Star’.
