Shine N Shimmer took the front early and then out-battled several challenges on the way to a 1:51.3 triumph in Tuesday’s $20,000 Mares Open at Dover Downs.
Reined by perennial meet leader, Corey Callahan, Howard Taylor’s five-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Sheer Hose trained by Doug Lewis held off Valerya (George Dennis) attacking on the outside on the backstretch then a passing lane brush from fast-finishing Fashion Showdown (Ross Wolfenden) in the lane to win by a head in 1:51.3, her second win in her last three starts. Duneside Chella (Marcus Miller) was third.
While recording her fourth win in her last six outings and 11th victory of the season Shine N Shimmer brought her seasonal bankroll to $143,785 and $425,569 lifetime.
George Dennis drove three winners, Allan Davis, Montrell Teague and trainer Robin Callahan had doubles.
