Logan Aas Upsets; Five For JJ

Georgian Downs has been kind to Mystical Ryan in recent weeks, but for the first time in a long time he had to take a back seat in the $15,000 Preferred Trot

at the Innisfil, Ontario oval.

The king of the class had won each of his last five assignments against that track’s top trotters, but a pocket trip helped Logan Aas end that one’s reign of domination.

Mystical Ryan, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite in the nine-horse affair, marched to the lead with Logan Aas and driver Jody Jamieson promptly working their way into the garden spot. Mystical Ryan rolled the field through fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:27 before being confronted by the foe that sat in his draft throughout the mile. Logan Aas used a :28.4 final frame to pull away to win by nearly two lengths in a 1:56 over Mystical Ryan. Earlsact tagged along every step of the way to finish third.

It was the sixth win of the 2009 campaign for the Ted MacDonnell-trained five-year-old son of Muscles Yankee, who is now a 16-time winner in his career. He pushed this year’s bankroll over $80,000 with the win, while his lifetime total climbed to $216,888 for MacDonnell, Stake Your Claim Stable, Noblock Racing Stable and Doug Peacock.

The victory was one five on the card for driver Jody Jamieson, who has racked up 735 wins on Canadian soil this season. He is now just four wins away from matching the single season record for wins on Canadian soil. Mark MacDonald holds the current record of 739 – a record that was established in 2006.
