Lancaster Bomber scored his first win of the season as he went gate-to-wire in the $15,000 Brian Jerome Memorial Pace on Sunday, Dec. 7 at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
The gelding reached the front immediately for Pascal Berube and paced the opening quarter in :29. He was unhurried to the half in :59.1 with the first-up Sunny Bo (Mike Healey) unable to advance, and the leader got another soft panel to three-quarters in 1:29.4. Star Dog (Guy Gagnon) attacked out of the pocket as they turned for the stretch, first shifting out and then switching to the inside, but Lancaster Bomber held him at bay to win by a half-length in 1:59.1. Day Trader (Steeven Genois) was third.
Lancaster Bomber, trained by Christina Miller, tallied his 12th career win and upped his bankroll to $148,025 in his 94th start. Scott Miller of Massena, N.Y. owns the seven-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Pasta Lavista, who is now one-for-15 this season. The gelding returned $3.10.
Sunday’s card was the penultimate date of the meet at Rideau. The finale is set for next Sunday, Dec. 14.
