It was an up-and-down month for Chinnys Wings in November, but his first start in the month of December couldn’t have been any better
for the Doug Bowins trainee.
Chinnys Wings took on eight foes in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs, and despite a first-over journey the gelding drew away to an impressive victory.
Bowins hustled the six-year-old son of Armbro Ricochet-I Quiver off the gate and landed in the two-hole behind Lance Hall. That fleet-footed foe threw down an opening quarter clocked in :28.3 before Green Day shot from third to first on the way to the mid-way point. Green Day hit the half in :58.2, but he came under immediate pressure from Chinnys Wings. Those two continued their battle in the third quarter, with Chinnys Wings gaining a narrow lead at that juncture in 1:27.1.
A :30-second final frame was more than enough for Chinnys Wings to win by 1-1/2 lengths over race favourite Green Day in 1:57.1. Third prize went to Mintoes.
Bowins shares ownership on Chinnys Wings with Donald Brinkman of East Coulee, AB, and together they’ve watched the trotter put together a 7-4-3 record from 27 trips to the track this season. The 31-time winner has managed to stash away in excess of $246,000 to date.
