B Gs Folly p,3,1:49.1-1:52h-’10 ($562,815) is the newest addition to the stallion lineup at Emerald Ridge Farm near Rockwood, Ont.
The winner of the $500,000 New Jersey Classic -- and only son of Rocknroll Hanover to stand stud in Canada -- will command a service fee of $3,000. Multiple mare discount will apply.
“We’re very happy to acquire a son of Rocknroll Hanover that has some serious racing credentials,” said Dr. Pat Meyers, who along with wife Anna owns Emerald Ridge Farm.
“On top of that he’s a fine individual with lots of size (15.3 hands) that was able to handle any size of racetrack. His semen quality is great and is just what the Ontario market is looking for especially for all those people with Camluck mares. And we’ve priced him so that he’ll be attractive to breeders not just today but until his two-year-olds begin racing.”
George Berkner trained B Gs Folly for William Salmeri, Chad Aaron, Martin Goldman and his wife, Virginia Berkner.
“The night he won the New Jersey Classic over All Speed Hanover was as good a performance as you will ever see. He had wicked speed but it was the way he covered the ground was what I liked. He was just a class horse all the way.”
B Gs Folly made just two starts at two, but was timed in 1:56.1 in his very first pari-mutuel appearance. At three he blossomed, winning the $76,000 Junior Trendsetter before capturing the $500,000 New Jersey Classic at the Meadowlands in a North American Season’s record 1:49.1.
“When B Gs Folly was on his game he could go with anyone. The night he won the New Jersey Classic he went a big trip against All Speed Hanover who won the Breeders Crown sitting on his back,” said driver Brian Sears.
“He was so good early in the year – very impressive horse with nice size and gait. I didn’t drive him in the Confederation Cup at Flamboro Downs, but he won his elimination (1:52h) for fun. Only the bad post in the final kept him from winning that race, too.”
As it was, B Gs Folly won his elimination in 1:52 flat before finishing second in the final from Post 7.
His accomplishments also included the Jersey Cup, third place finishes in the Oliver Wendell Holmes (1:48.2) to Rockin Image and Rock N Roll Heaven and the Breeders Crown elimination to One More Laugh and Rockin Image.
“We also really like the fact that he is a Rocknroll Hanover from an Artsplace mare. That seems to be the new golden cross because the vast majority of the successful Rocknroll Hanovers are from Artsplace dams. So the bloodlines don’t get any more contemporary or fashionable than that,” said Dr. Meyers.
Emerald Ridge Farm is located 15 minutes driving time north of Mohawk Racetrack and is also home to stallions Muscle Mass and Lis Mara.
Dr. Meyers is a board certified theriogenologist and is affiliated with Select Breeders Services, the world’s largest network of semen specialists.
