With no Priceless Edition to worry about in this week’s edition of the $12,100 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Mild Mannered stepped up his game and captured the Sunday evening feature in a sharp clocking of 1:54.1
.
The three-year-old son of Mach Three was sent off as the 3-5 choice in the six-horse affair, and he came through on that pari-mutuel promise even though he was subjected to a first-over trip. Mild Mannered and trainer/driver Denis St. Pierre wore down pacesetter Best Show In Town in deep stretch and then fended off Nocturnal by a quarter of a length in the winning effort. Best Show In Town was a lapped-on third.
It was the seventh win of the 2009 campaign and the ninth lifetime tally for the colt, who has banked more than $148,000 to date for the 139800 Canada Inc. of Dorval, QC.
The Sunday evening program was also kind to trainer Gerard Demers, who sent out three winners over the course of the 15-race card.
Demers clicked with The Panductor (1:59), Awestreos (1:55.1) and O U Legacy (1:57.4) to bring this year’s total number of wins to 80 – a single season record for the Papineauville, QC horseman. His starters have banked more than $500,000 this year, and more than $1.6 million to date.
