On a night where temperatures dipped to the freezing point, Youvegotawaywithme ($8.00) heated up to snap a four-race losing skid with a 2:00.2 triumph in Tuesday’s (Dec. 5) featured $8,200 upper-level pacing event for fillies and mares at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Mark Williams picked up the drive on the three-year-old daughter of Mach Three and angled her second-over from fifth to slipstream the live cover of lukewarm 5-2 favourite Turbo Diva (Travis Henry) nearing race’s midpoint. After Turbo Diva advanced to press longtime pacesetter Show Me Some Magic (Alfie Carroll) to a :29.1 third quarter after a soft 1:00.2 first half, Williams tipped Youvegotawaywithme three-wide. Upon cornering for home, Youvegotawaywithme found her best, struck the front in the final sixteenth, and held off a late charge from Bryn Baroness (Ross Battin), who lifted down the extreme outside to miss by half a length. Show Me Some Magic checked in an engulfed third.

For Youvegotawaywithme, a William Kirkpatrick homebred whom he also trains, the win was the eighth of her career and her sixth of the year in 15 starts.

In the sub-featured $7,500 distaff pace, Twin B Cuzisaidso ($3.20) lived up to odds-on billing with a 2:02.2 pillar-to-post score, her second in three career starts to date. Travis Henry trains and drives the two-year-old daughter of Well Said and Smart Card for Twinbrook Limited.
