Closing night at Lebanon Raceway will take on an air of nostalgia this Saturday (December 7) when the track gathers to salute those who have contributed to racing over the past 65 years.
Racing will resume at Lebanon on February 7, 2014, in a new building, with a new name, Miami Valley Gaming.
A race called ‘Farewell Lebanon Raceway’ between many of the drivers whose roots in racing started at Lebanon will be carded for Race 9, expected to go off at about 9:10 p.m. The race will feature current or past Lebanon drivers Dan Noble, Jeremy Smith, Ken Holliday, Kayne Kauffman, Randy Tharps, Tyler Smith, Joe Essig Jr., Tony Hall and Mike Wilder.
In addition, there will be a tribute to the people and horses that lost their lives in the fire at Barn 16 in December 2009.
Track executives and horsemen Omar Hiteman, Don Huston, Trent Tharps, Chip Noble, Bobby Gray, Corwin Nixon, Herb Coven Jr., Ronnie Giehls, Rosemary Wainscott, the Carlo and Hagemeyer families, George Owens, Ray Paver, David Miller, and the George Williams family are among those that will be honoured and remembered on Saturday.
Roger Huston, announcer at the Little Brown Jug and the Meadows, will travel to Lebanon for the night to call a race in honour of his uncle, Don Huston, a former announcer at the track.
