There’s just over a week to go before Fraser Downs plays host to the Western Regional Driving Championship, and many are comparing the event to a Wild West shootout.

Eight drivers will compete in the event on Saturday, December 13, with the top two point earners advancing to the Nation Driving Championship where they’ll do battle with the top two point earners from the already completed Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Regionals.

Fraser Downs will play host to the National Driving Championship on Saturday, March 21, 2009, with the winner of that event representing the nation in the World Driving Championship which will be held in Norway from May 14-20.

Here’s a television promo that Fraser Downs has aired leading up to next Saturday’s Western Regional Driving Championship.

The following drivers will participate in the Western Regional Driving Championship:

Representing Alberta:

• Keith Clark
• Kelly Hoerdt
• Gerry Hudon

Representing Manitoba

• Darryl Mason

Representing Saskatchewan

• Glenn Le Drew

Representing British Columbia

• Bill Davis
• Scott Knight
• Jim Marino

WOW!!! Other tracks could certainly take some direction from this ad and others I've seen like it from other tracks. Maybe if we had creative advertising/promotions from tracks in Alberta like this, we wouldn't be in such dire circumstances. We keep being told that we have to improve our entertainment/product. What do they want us to do, put clown costumes on our horses/drivers. Let's face it the product is there, the tracks are dropping the ball. Nothing for families, not very welcoming, who wants to come to a place where you don't feel you are welcome.
