Demolition of Fredericton Raceway's grandstand at the New Brunswick Provincial Exhibition has begun as a legal dispute continues regarding the property that has been expropriated by the City of Fredericton for development.
According to a report by CTV News, demolition of the grandstand began last week with the timeline for completion set at three months and the cost up to $400,000. Exhibition board members approved the deconstruction of the steel and wooden structure after initially contesting the city’s demolition order.
CTV News has reported that the legal dispute is ongoing regarding the expropriated grounds, which were a gift to the city from the O'Dell family for the purposes of holding an annual agricultural festival. The land has been earmarked by the city for housing and a new school.
Fredericton Raceway last hosted harness racing on Sept. 8, 2019.
