The Sunshine Beach filly Just Daisy survived on the lead to land a 25-1 upset over odds-on favourite Bet On Becky in the $50,200 Harvest Series Final for three-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday (Dec. 4) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Driver Chris Christoforou fired the Terry Fritz-trained filly for the front from post 7 and cleared command to a :28 first quarter. On the point, she slowed the tempo up the backside to a :57.1 half, where Bet On Becky pulled first over out of fifth to begin an advance on the pacesetter. She ranged to the leader’s wheel circling the final turn as Just Daisy began to quicken by three-quarters in 1:25.4. In the sprint for home, Just Daisy clung to a diminishing lead over Bet On Becky, but held firmly enough to pass the beam three-quarter lengths better in a 1:53.1 mile. Awesome Hill rallied to finish third and Chiefs Dream Girl took fourth.
Owned by Terry Fritz, Just Daisy won her eighth race from 17 starts, pushing her earnings to $69,005. She paid $52.20 to win.
