Standardbred Canada has released the ballots and ballot packages for the 2018 O’Brien Awards to race secretaries, publicists, trade writers and simulcast hosts across the country. Fan voting will start tomorrow, and is available until Friday, Dec. 14 until noon (EST).

There are two O’Brien Award categories where a committee narrows the field for voters to select from – Horsemanship and Breeder.

Standardbred Canada’s eight-member O’Brien Committee, appointed by SC’s Board of Directors, determines the candidates for the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship and the Armstrong Breeder of the Year Award.

The candidates for the 2018 O’Brien Award of Horsemanship are:

• Guy Gagnon of Gatineau, QC
• Jamie Gray of Sturgeon County, AB
• Rick Zeron of Oakville, ON

For the Armstrong Breeder of the Year, the committee has put forward the following candidates for the voters to choose from:

• William Andrew, Calgary, AB / Meridian Farms, Calgary AB / Milton Station, PEI
• Seelster Farms Inc., Lucan, ON
• Warrawee Farm, Rockwood, ON

Voters are asked to select a first-place choice and a second-place choice in each category and the top two point earners will be announced as the O’Brien Award Finalists on Tuesday, December 18.
