Favourite Smartygirl led every step of the way en route to an open length victory in the featured $6,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace on Wednesday night at Flamboro Downs.
Driven by Billy Davis Jr., the five-year-old Camluck mare was a gate-to-wire winner in 1:56.3 over the 'good' track, which was rated two seconds off. She established the lead with the inside post advantage and cruised through fractions of :28, :58 and 1:26.3 while extending her leading margin to six lengths. First over Andro Madi edged out Stryking Dove for the runner-up honours.
Smartygirl ($4.30) earned her sixth win in 36 starts this year and pushed her seasonal earnings to $47,236 for trainer Ron Adams and owner/breeder Dr. David Fisher of Windsor, Ont.
