The undefeated Enjoy The Caviar is set to return to Woodbine Racetrack Monday, December 8 night. Trainer Joanne Dawson has commented on why the SJs Caviar gelding has missed some time.
The five-year-old has not raced since November 3. He was scheduled to race on November 17 at Woodbine, but was injured when he stumbled going out of the paddock to warm up.
Enjoy The Caviar suffered a deep gouge to one knee, which required some time off for treatment, but Dawson, who is also co-owner of the gelding, has told the Woodbine publicity department that the injury has healed well and that the bay has been given the 'all clear' to return to action.
"He trained a really good trip yesterday (Wednesday, December 3) at Georgian Downs," Dawson said. "He came out of it well and we had Dr. Ruch check him out afterward and he said everything looked good. He also took the horse's blood for us this morning and that came back good, too, so we're all set to go."
On that advice, the speedy trotter was dropped into the entry box for this Monday's program.
Dawson says that there is still some superficial scarring where the injury occurred, but that the horse is perfectly sound and feeling like himself.
Enjoy The Caviar, who is in his first season at the races, has amassed nine straight wins and $80,000 for Dawson who co-owns along with Holly Carr of Utopia, Ont. It was Carr who first purchased the horse last fall for a mere $1,200.
