Shepherd Takes Feature, Wins Five

Driver Robert Shepherd steered Deetzy through the fog to a nose victory in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Monday, Dec. 31 on a night he won five on the card.

Past the quarter in :27.4, Deetzy held control passing the half in :58 while Make Some Luck sat pocket at Mr Mach Jimmy stalked from third. The field journeyed back into the mist entering the backside and paced to three-quarters in 1:27. Through the lane favourite Make Some Luck inched towards leader Deetzy but finished short on the wire. Mr Mach Jimmy finished two lengths behind them in third.

A six-year-old gelding by Jeremes Jet, Deetzy won his ninth race in 41 starts and his 23rd in 151 overall, earning $398,004. Dave Menary conditions the $8.00 winner for owner Holland Racing Stable.

Shepherd won four other races on the card. He wired the opener with Lady London ($4.40) in 1:59, wired a $4,200 conditioned claiming pace with Kahlua Morning ($3.60) in 2:01, wired a $4,800 conditioned claiming pace with Dorabella ($8.10) in 1:59.2 and came from off the pace with White Dancer ($2.70) to win the $4,000 nightcap in 2:01.1.
