Following the conclusion of its 2024 harness racing season last Friday, Dec. 28, BC Racebook has reported that Fraser Downs achieved its highest wagering totals in more than a decade.
BC Racebook has reported that the 54-day meet had a total handle of $14.2 million, reflecting an impressive 18.5 per cent increase of more than $2.3 million compared to 2023.
To support this momentum, Fraser Downs has prioritized horseplayer-friendly initiatives, offering some of the lowest takeouts in North American harness racing with most bet types set at just 15 per cent. The addition of a second Pick 4 wager to each program proved particularly popular, further engaging bettors.
Fraser Downs also introduced a new voice to the announcer’s booth this season, with Michael Misurka joining veteran announcer and “Voice of B.C. Racing” Dan Jukich. Misurka brings fresh enthusiasm to the role and is gaining valuable experience under Jukich’s guidance.
Fraser Downs also upgraded its facilities by installing LED lighting to enhance the visual experience of nighttime racing, benefitting both in-person and simulcast audiences.
Dawn Lupul, Manager of Racing and Communications for BC Racebook, celebrated the season’s success, stating, "We are thrilled with the results this year! Wagering is up significantly, and we’ve had incredible engagement with our product. We couldn’t be more thankful to the horseplayers and horsepeople who continue to make these increases possible."
Live harness racing returns to Fraser Downs on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, with races scheduled every Thursday and Friday evening at 7 p.m. Pacific Time.
