Lorenzo Langford is mayor of Atlantic City, NJ, and as such is facing the bruising brashness of his governor, Chris Christie, who wants to take over the city’s tourism industry
.
Langford is fighting back, and recently issued a bold challenge to Christie.
“I will not allow any person or entity to come into this town and ride roughshod over us in an attempt to force their agenda down our throat,” he said to media, preparing them for a fuller blast to come in a press conference later this week.
“I have remained consistent,” Langford said, “in my commitment to work cooperatively with whomever for the greater good of Atlantic City. However, what the governor originally planned is not what is being practiced.”
Christie first proposed a partnership between state and city. Then he backed legislation to reform casino regulations and set up a fiefdom with the city to be controlled by the state.
A livid Langford also blasted a predecessor, NJ Senator Jim Whelan, for not keeping him and city officials informed of what was going on in 'Christiedom.'
