Five-Bagger For Devaux

Published: December 3, 2013 12:12 pm EST

Quietly, and without much fanfare, Jimmy Devaux just keeps driving winners.

The former Monticello Raceway driving champ recorded five driving victories on Monday, December 2 at the ‘Mighty M.’

Devaux’s wins came with Able Yankee, Lexus Artist, V I P, Swing And A Hit and Red Eye Blue Chip.

In a season where Devaux’s brother-in-law, Bruce Aldrich Jr., has been getting most of the headlines at Monticello, Devaux’s prowess has been taking a back seat. Like Aldrich, Devaux is no longer training and just driving. Also like Aldrich, Devaux has been doing double duty by racing at Monticello during the day and at Saratoga in the evenings

Currently, Devaux has driven 209 winners at the Mighty M and 175 at the Spa City oval for a seasonal total of 384, which ranks him in 18th in driving victories on the North American leaderboard. His 294 Monticello wins in 2007 earned him the driving title, as did his 288 victories did in 2002. However, Devaux’s output this season dwarfs the others, and Devaux is enjoying his best season ever in the sulky.

“Lately, I’ve had a little power (live mounts) and have been putting them in the right spot and thankfully they’ve been delivering,” he told Monticello’s publicity department on Monday.

Free Fabulous Fantasy Holiday Party For The Kids On Sunday, December 15

On Sunday, December 15, the Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association and Monticello Casino & Raceway will host a ‘Fabulous, Fantasy Holiday Party’ from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for local children ranging from toddlers to 12 years of age.

The party will mark the fifth consecutive year the two organizations have come together to put the event on. The party will be run in conjunction with the racing program on December 15. Post time for the race card will be 12:25 p.m.

Monticello Raceway horsemen will be taking the attending children on a magical make-believe journey to the North Pole where they will visit with, and have photos taken with, Santa and his elves in ‘Snowy Candy Cane Land.’

The party will be centered on the third floor of the grandstand in the casino where various other activities are planned for the children.

“This year we will be bigger and better than ever and there will be something for each and every child,” noted Alan Schwartz, the president of the MHHA. “We have plenty of gifts; bicycles of all kinds, games, toys, stuffed animals, and even remote controlled cars.”

There will be games to play and the youngsters can have their faces done up by a professional face painter. And, yes, Elvis will be in the building. Eric Bressi (AKA Elvis’ Lost Brother) will entertain, completely gratis.

“We have heard from good sources that ‘Rudolph’ might make an appearance as the Good Will Ambassador for the Candy Cane Pace, the special holiday race featured on the racing program that afternoon,” added Mrs. Dale Berenson, the executive secretary of administration for the MHHA. “And, once again, all children will receive a candy cane after the Candy Cane Pace is completed.”

Attendance to the Holiday Party is free and it promises to be a day the kids will remember. Sweet treats, cookies, hot chocolate will also be given to all the attending children courtesy of Monticello Raceway….. and, of course, Santa.
