Change Of Fortune For Cuban Seelster

After a disappointing eight-place finish in last week’s edition of the Preferred 2 Pace at Western Fair Raceway, Cuban Seelster was back with a vengeance in this week’s edition of the class.

Cuban Seelster, in rein to the birthday boy, Doug McNair, survived a first-over trip to take home the lion’s share of the $12,800 purse. That was good enough to push the gelding’s lifetime bankroll over $200,000.

C Ws Special threw down fractions of :29.1, 1:00.1 and 1:30.1 over an oval that was listed as “heavy” with a three-second allowance for time. He felt pressure in the middle stages of the mile from Cuban Seelster, who only needed a :31-second final quarter to win by more than three-lengths in a time of 2:01.1.

Sharon The Moment tagged along to finish in the runner-up spot behind the Ray Bunn trainee and Dextra Effort rallied to grab the show dough in the eight-horse affair.

Bunn co-owns the four-year-old son of Intrepid Seelster with partners Tara Foy, McCarthy Family Farms Ltd. and Don Thomson. It was the pacer’s 18th lifetime victory, and it helped him improve his 2008 record to 6-6-4 in 33 starts.
