There was no touching Ten Carat in the preliminary legs of the Alliance Series for filly and mare claiming pacers, and it was more of the same in Thursday’s final at Flamboro Downs.
Robert Shepherd got away fourth in the $13,900 final with Ten Carat, who watched Bag Of Card slice out first-half fractions of :28.1 and :58. Ten Carat launched a first-over bid going to the half, and she took over command in the backstretch.
The heavily-favoured filly led by more than three lengths at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.1, and her :31.3 closing speed earned her the win by a length over Ritasrockinheaven in 1:57.4. Emma Ivy rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
Trainer Rod Boyd co-owns the three-year-old daughter of Well Said-More Diamonds with 83 Racing and Glenn Bechtel. It was the fourth win of the season – and the sixth to date – for the career winner of $41,530.
