The rules committee of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has asked the state attorney general if it has the legal right to seize contraband during a stable
search.
The inquiry followed a challenge by the state’s Legislative Research commission staff of the right to seize any property that violates racing regulations, and the right to search vehicles and on-track dormitory rooms without consent of the licensee.
Burr Travis, a lawyer and member of the racing commission, said, “To say that we couldn’t search or seize contraband would be ludicrous.”
