Unabating Repeats In Rideau Feature

Unabating ($4.10) earned his second consecutive victory in Rideau Carleton Raceway's $6,650 Winners Over Handicap Trot on Sunday evening (Dec. 27).

Heres The Magic left between horses in the top trotting class to take the lead past the opening quarter in :28.2 over longshot Jetcrest and Undercover Bro. He continued to front the field of seven to the half in :59.2.

Meanwhile, even-money favourite Unabating, who was last at the quarter-pole, followed the cover of Caroluzzo and continued to gain ground when that first over competitor took over the lead down the backstretch.

Caroluzzo trotted past three-quarters in 1:30.2 with Unabating quickly moving up alongside and then edging ahead around the final turn. Unabating eventually drew one-length clear down the stretch and hit the wire in 2:01.3 over the "good" track rated three seconds off. Jetcrest came on for second while Caroluzzo settled for third.

Unabating paid $4.10 to win. Gerard Demers trains the seven-year-old Broadway Hall gelding for owners Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, Que. and Les Ecuries GLD Inc. of St-Andre-Avelin, Que. Guy Gagnon was the winning driver.

Unabating now has 11 wins in 28 starts this year and an annual income of $48,398. His sixth race victory was the first of three on the 12-race card for the Demers stable.
