Cusdmagicdragon Caps Hoerdt's Big Day

The Kelly Hoerdt stable had the gloves off for Boxing Day card at Fraser Downs on Saturday (Dec. 26), winning five races on the 17-race program including a victory in the $10,100 Open Pace with Cusdmagicdragon.

Sent the 2-5 favourite, Cusdmagicdragon grabbed the lead early and opened four lengths on pylon-starter Rockin Mystery to a :28.1 opening quarter. Driver Scott Knight rationed the speed of charge through middle fractions of :58.4 and 1:27.2, where Intrigued Again took his shot and rolled first over from last. However Cusdmagicdragon scooted away with ease off the final turn, strolling to a three-and-three-quarter lengths win over Intrigued Again in a 1:56.3 mile. Redneck Jim took third.

Co-owned by Hoerdt with breeders Blair and Erna Corbeil, Cusdmagicdragon won her eighth race from 14 starts this season and her 31st from 73 overall,e arning $342,066. The five-year-old Custard The Dragon mare paid $2.50 to win.

Cusdmagicdragon gave Hoerdt his first victory on the card. The 2020 O'Brien Award of Horsemanship finalist followed that race with a win by Good Day Is Coming ($4.50) and snagged his other three wins to the tail of the card. Thinkingofyoubabe ($4.60) and Thankyaverymuch ($6.50) gave Hoerdt back-to-back winners before Queen Of Thrones ($3.00) scored a wire-to-wire victory in the nightcap.
