The Christmas spirit carried over an extra day for Kelly Hoerdt, who posted a training hat trick on the eight-race Boxing Day (Dec. 26) card at Fraser Downs.
Hoerdt, who also drove his three winning trainees, rallied Dreamers Delight ($10.70) off third-over cover to collar odds-on favourite Steady Breeze to take the featured opener, a $10,000 claiming event for fillies and mares, in 1:55.2. Hoerdt struck again in race 5, a $7,500 claiming pace, with Thankyaverymuch ($3.90). The three-year-old Betterthancheddar gelding floated into third, brushed to the fore with a circuit to go, and edged away to a 3-1/2 length victory in 1:55.1.
Special And Unique ($4.90) concluded Hoerdt's treble with a 1:57.2 victory in the last, a $4,500 distaff event. The daughter of Shadow Play pulled the pocket to overtake pacesetter Sunset Sunday nearing the far turn before sprinting off to beat odds-on choice Crystal Dragon by 3-1/2 lengths.
