Treasure Kronos, a four-year-old mare owned by Canada's David Goodrow and Americans Jeffrey and Michael Snyder, won the Criterium Continental at the Vincennes track in Paris on Christmas Day. The victory earned Treasure Kronos an invitation to the Prix d'Amerique.
Christoffer Eriksson drove the Jerry Riordan-trained Treasure Kronos, with the win coming in his first drive ever at the Vincennes track. Traders, the favourite, was leading but broke in the stretch drive and that opened up a duel between Treasure Kronos and Day Or Night, driven by Johan Untersteiner.
Treasure Kronos is a daughter of Raja Mirchi (by Viking Kronos) and out of Glide About, a sister to Maven. Day Or Night is by Muscle Hill out of Ellie America (by Buvetier d'Aunou).
The victory was worth about $112,000. The winning time for the 2,100-metre race was a mile rate time of 1:55.3.
Also at Vincennes on Christmas Day, the favoured Belina Josselyn won the Prix Tenor de Baune, also a Prix d'Amerique prep. Belina Josselyn, a five-year-old mare, took the lead early. Bird Parker, a son of Ready Cash, was stuck with a first-over journey for most of the race and challenged, but couldn't overtake Belina Josselyn.
