Thundering Ovation took top honours at Flamboro Downs in the Boxing Day feature with a wire-to-wire victory over a field of Preferred 2 trotters.
Meet leader Billy Davis Jr. steered the homebred Thunder Road mare through fractions of :29, :59.4 and 1:30.3 en route to the 2:01.3 score in the $10,000 trot over the 'good' track for trainer Gerald Sloan and owners Joanne and Courtney Sloan. Money Maven rallied home off cover, but missed by just a head for Daniel O'Brian. Favourite Amigo Loco and Trevor Henry finished third nearly three lengths behind.
Thundering Ovation paid $12.10 to win as the 5-1 fourth choice. She earned the third win from 14 starts during her four-year-old campaign while pushing her seasonal earnings to $23,670.
For Davis, the win was one of four on the 12-race card. He also picked up victories aboard American Fly and David Menary trainees Torches Angel and Holy Molie Maggie, who ran her win streak up to five.
Sophomore pacing filly Foolish Mind ($9.80) converted off a pocket trip to win the $6,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace in 1:59 over pacesetter Mamasaidso and Anthony MacDonald. Bob McClure drove the daughter of I Am A Fool for trainer Sue Marie Gangell, who also co-owns with Barry Charles. Favourite Mc Taylor and Henry finished third.
