Christmas came early for J.R. Plante this year, as the reinsman put together a five-win performance during Monday’s 12-race program at Flamboro Downs.
Plante, who is in the midst of his most productive season to date, started off on the right foot by winning with his first drive on the card.
Scotian Critic went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a second race score in 2:02.4 to give Plante his first winner on the card, and he made a round trip to victory lane thanks to a third race triumph with Forceful Hope (1:59.3).
He was quiet during the mid-stages of the program before finishing with a natural hat trick in Races 10 thru 12.
Astroline (1:57.4) took the tenth race in 1:57.4 followed by a narrow win in the eleventh race with Deliteful Dolphin (1:58). Mr Big Stuff (1:58.2) capped off the card with a decisive first-over score, and in doing so gave Plante his fifth trip to the winner’s circle.
The profitable day at the office gives Plante 241 wins on the season in addition to $1,486,251 in purse earnings. Both of those numbers tower over the personal records (165 wins - $994,956) he set during the 2007 season.
