Five-year-old pacing stallion El Rey, a Grand Circuit stakes winner, has been retired and will stand stud in 2026.

El Rey p,2,1:49.2, 3,1:48.3 ($949,271) will stand stud at Schwartz Boarding Farm in Indiana.

Boasting a career record reading 11-11-8 from 61 starts, the son of Captaintreacherous and Mystery Game was the winner of the Governor’s Cup and multiple Kentucky Sire Stakes events at two. As a sophomore, the pacer won an elimination of the Breeders Crown, two legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series and was stakes-placed multiple times, including in a division of the Bluegrass Stakes as well as in the Tattersalls Pace and Progress Pace. During his aged campaign, he added more Kentucky Sire Stakes victories to his resume as well as a leg of the MGM Grand Prix Pacing Series along with a top three finish in the Breeders Crown.

He was purchased during his three-year-old season for $525,000 USD by current owners William Pollock, Bruce Areman and Andrew Harris after being trained by Tony Alagna.

“El Rey was a true professional, had a great turn of foot with an impeccable gait," said trainer and co-owner Harris. "Truly a gifted animal with the heart of a champion.”

Schwartz Boarding Farm has reported that fertility testing was recently conducted at Walnridge Farm and El Rey was approved for a full book of 140 mares.

Alvin Schwartz of Schwartz Boarding Farm is excited to bring the son of Captaintreacherous to Indiana, noting the stallion will provide a great opportunity for Indiana breeders.

“I’ve been looking for the right pacing sire for a while now and El Rey fits the bill," said Schwartz. "The Pollock, Areman and Harris ownership team has been great for our sport and Schwartz Boarding Farm is proud to partner with them as they enter the breeding side of the market in Indiana.”

El Rey will stand for a fee of $3,500 USD, with discounts available for multiple mares, and will be arriving at Schwartz Boarding Farm soon. Interested breeders should contact Schwartz Boarding at 260-525-2997.
