The Atlantic Provinces Harness Racing Commission (APHRC) recently issued a decision regarding the home market areas allotted to Nova Scotia's racetracks.
The APHRC convened to hear proposals submitted by the province's three racetracks — Inverness Raceway, Northside Downs and Truro Raceway — regarding the existing split for Telephone Account Betting and home market areas in Nova Scotia.
Following a breakdown of the previous informal agreement that provided nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of the revenue generated by account wagering to Truro, the APHRC was asked to intervene.
In its ruling, published on Dec. 16, 2022, the APHRC stated that "The Commission is of the view that a more equitable sharing of the Province's largest market is in the best interest of the sport in Nova Scotia."
