Although the original plan had Vintage Master moving to New Jersey for the 2014 breeding season, it has been decided that the world champion racehorse and promising young stallion will remain in Ontario for next year.

According to Brittany Stallion Management, he will continue to stand at Winbak Farm of Canada in Caledon, Ont. for a fee of $3,500 (CAD).

Brittany manager Art Zubrod said he was disappointed that the planned move to New Jersey didn’t work out, but was pleased at the demand for Vintage Master that exists in Ontario, where he had stood his first two seasons.

“Obviously, the move to New Jersey just didn’t pan out,” said Zubrod. “We went against the grain and tried to support racing and breeding in the state and the new Meadowlands, but the drop-off in demand for New Jersey eligibles, as we saw at the sales last fall, has certainly carried through to the current stallion market.”

On a positive note, Zubrod said Vintage Master has many supporters in Ontario.

“Ontario breeders were disappointed when we announced the move to New Jersey," he said. “He has a core of breeders there who really support him. Those who bred to him in his first season are extremely pleased with their Vintage Master foals and had hoped for a return breeding. I think this will all work out in the best interest of the horse.”

As a racehorse, Vintage Master p,4,1:48.1f ($2,162,979), by Western Ideal out of the Artsplace mare Arts Vintage, was a double world champion and double millionaire.

His Hall Of Fame trainer Jimmy Takter said of him, “He gave it everything he had, every time he stepped on the track. I can’t think of a horse I liked more than him.”
