The duo of trainer Chris Haskell and driver Brad Forward was more than productive, it was unstoppable on Sunday evening at Windsor Raceway.
They joined forces four times on the 12-race card, and to the delight of the favourite players they found their way to victory lane four times.
Forward and Haskell scored with Stunner, who contrary to what his name implies, won as he pleased in the fourth race. The gelding went wire-to-wire in a time of 2:00 for owner Cassie Nantais of Windsor, ON.
The same connections were right back to get their pictures taken in the fifth race thanks to a coast-to-coast win with odds-on favourite Atom Love N, who stopped the clock in 1:59.2.
Mattoxs Bizkit marched to the front and didn’t look back in the seventh race for Haskell and partner Mario Dangelo of Amherstburg, ON. Forward rolled the pari-mutuelly popular gelding through splits of :27.4, :59.2 and 1:28 en route to the 1:58.3 decision.
Adriatic got up in the final strides in the tenth race to complete the hat-trick for owner Nantais. As for Forward and Haskell, the 1:58.2 triumph completed their Sunday evening Grand Slam.
Haskell has sent out 74 winners in 2008, and that matches his career-high total for a single season. His UTR is a staggering .554 – a number that will go down as a personal best for the Windsor, ON resident.
Forward has also enjoyed a very strong 2008 campaign as noted in his 565 trips to various winner’s circles and his $3.8 million bankroll. There’s a slim chance he could put together a personal record for earnings in a single season. In order to top last year’s total he’ll have to rack up another $46,070 between now and the end of the year.
