Randy Waples put the pedal to the metal with Marquis Volo in Monday’s $22,000 feature race at Woodbine Racetrack, and the Per Henriksen pupil responded by earning a new speed badge.
Marquis Volo was parked and pressing for the lead at the quarter pole in :28, and he eventually work his way to the position of command. He crossed down to the pylons and proceeded to lead the field to the half in :57.
He then used a :28.4 third quarter to take the trotters past the third marker in 1:25.4, and a :28.3 closing panel was more than enough for the gelding to seal the deal in 1:54.2. It was 2-1/4 lengths back to the runner-up, Little Red Chev. Third prize was earned by Zagster.
It was the second straight tally – and the 13th to date – for the four-year-old son of Credit Winner-Margarita Momma. Tor Jan Larsen, Gerald Stay, Mac Nichol and Big Als Stables Inc share ownership on the career winner of $136,794.
