More information has come out regarding the push to race more at Leamington Raceway in the next couple of years in order to potentially build a new track in the Greater Windsor Area.
An article by The Windsor Star has quoted Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain as saying that his group is planning on applying to use $7 million in purse money left in limbo by Windsor Raceway.
The group is looking to race 10 times more dates a year at Leamington Raceway in 2013 and 2014 in order to put itself in a position to apply to build a new racetrack. Although, in order to upgrade Leamington to be able to host 10 live race cards in 2013 and 2014, there would have to be a new paddock erected.
"We want to get approval to get the $7 million from purse structure moved into a capital pool where we could use it for capital," said Bain. "We're certainly moving forward and fast because we want to open Leamington Raceway possibly in April or May."
