Hudon Fears No One

"I've never been scared of racing a horse, so really nobody kind of scares me - it's a very well-matched field."

With the top two finishers in last week's prep, Gerry Hudon is talking nothing for granted heading into Saturday's $100,000 Western Canada Pacing Derby. On today's episode of Trot Radio, Hudon talks about his chances with Bachelor Pad and Hollywood Warrior.

"It's nice knowing when you step on the track with the pair of them that they're going to give you 100 per cent. It makes your life a little easier."

Bachelor Pad won his second straight race last Saturday for Hudon, both times besting stablemate Hollywood Warrior in the process. Hudon noted while Silver Eagle was the more dominant horse early on, he always had faith in his charges.

"I think they come into themselves a little later, especially that Hollywood Warrior horse. I figured he'd be a better colt as the year got going."

Part of the reason why Hudon had that confidence is due to two key assets both colts possess, and as any trainer will tell you heart goes a long way.

"They're versatile, they're very versatile horses. To be honest with you, they're nothing flashy but they always try. That makes a good racehorse and that's half their secret."

Hudon also comments on how Lacombe has "saved" the harness racing industry in Alberta and what he's heard about the much-delayed Balzac project. To listen to the full interview with Hudon and Borg, click the play button below.
