The second leg of the Blossom Park Trotting Series went postward at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday evening, with Carrland Gerald and JCs Kadabra capturing
their respective $15,000 divisions.
Carrland Gerald used a “catch me if you can” approach to take his assignment by three lengths for driver Denis St. Pierre and trainer Gerard Demers. The four-year-old son of Oaklea Julian carved out panels of :28.1, :59.2 and 1:29.1 before stepping home in :31.1 to stop the teletimer in 2:00.2. Race favourite Delta Dental came first-over and held on bravely to finish second, while Cowboys Like Us rallied late to finish third.
Andre Hebert of Papineauville, QC owns the gelding, who was sent off at odds of 6-1 in the eight-horse affair. The victory was the trotter’s ninth of the season and the fifteenth of his career. He has stashed away more than $60,000 to date.
JCs Kadabra also used front-stepping tactics to take home top prize in her assignment for the tandem of driver John MacDonald and trainer Sebastien Giroux. The five-year-old Kadabra miss supplied panels of :28.3, :59.2 and 1:29.4 before coasting finishing off her foes with a :31.3 final quarter en route to the half-length score in 2:01.2. Dream II was next best, with Pacopaco taking home the show dough.
Andre Paris of Montreal, QC held the ownership papers on the mare until the field reached the fair start pole, at which time successful claimant Nathalie Seguin took over the ownership on the mare. Paris still collected the lion’s share of the $15,000 from the winning effort, which put the mare’s lifetime cash stash over $98,000.
The $26,800 final of the Blossom Park Trotting Series is slated for next Thursday evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
