According to a report by The Star Ledger, in 2009 horse racing fans will have the ability to place bets on Meadowlands Racetrack and Monmouth Park via internet-enabled mobile devices.
The move is in attempt to increase revenues.
According to the article, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority has said that the two publicly-owned tracks are expected to lose $20.8 million in 2009. This year, the tracks are set to lose $16.9 million.
