The dash for the driving title at Truro Raceway went down to the very last race of the 2011 season with Ryan Ellis edging out Darren Crowe for the bragging rights with a win aboard his own pacer in the Sunday afternoon feature.

Entering the card, Crowe had one up on Ellis, but had to settle for runner-up honours at the end of the day as Ellis pushed ahead with a pair of victories. Ellis tied Crowe's 45 win total aboard William Turner's N S Acadian with a 2:02.1 wire-to-wire score in the ninth race and then captured the featured $1,225 Winners Over Pace with the pocket-pulling San Marco Hanover in 1:59.1 to close out the season with 46 victories.

The 31-year-old resident of Brookfield, N.S. has won a career high of 49 races in his fifth year of driving while banking nearly $50,000 in purses. Ellis now sports 162 victories on his lifetime record with over $230,000 earned.

Nicholas White earned the training title with 27 wins while Blair Laffin moved into second place thanks to his two winners on the card, Life Of Crime and Whistys Pride, giving him 25 wins this season.

The 2012 live harness racing meet is tentatively scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 1.
