Sudbury Downs’ leading trainer France MacLean widened the gap in the track’s standings for 2010 after capturing one-third of the races on Saturday night’s 12-race program.

MacLean started the night on the right foot as her trainee Here To Fraternity ($5.40) was a going away winner in the first race with Wayne MacLean at the controls. Mike MacNeill drove the next two MacLean winners, Justa Regular Joe ($6.20) in the sixth race and Sjs Nitelife ($15.30) in the eighth race, before Sprinter ($4.20) completed the grand slam in the finale with Jason Ryan in the bike.

Fresh off a career year in 2009, MacLean pushed her 2010 win total to 70 to maintain a strong hold of the season’s title for top trainer. Mario Rivest sits second at the Chelmsford, Ont. half-miler, trailing MacLean by 29 wins. She has earned over $400,000 so far this year and has recorded 403 wins earnings over $2.2 million in purses lifetime.
