The United Horsemen of Alberta continue to move forward in their quest to climb out of debt and re-start construction on the Balzac racetrack

"We had a CCCA (creditor protection) appearance [on Wednesday] before our judge and everything has gone as good as it could," Max Gibb, CEO of UHA said recently to thehorses.com. "Yesterday's meeting was very good.

"We are in the process of selling/closing deals for around $75 million in land." It's that money from sales that has Gibb optimistic about UHA's financial bottom line for early 2010.

"We expect by the end of February (the land deals) will be concluded." While there have been several key dates in the long, rocky history of UHA's challenge to build a major track for both thoroughbred and harness racing just north of the Calgary airport, it appears the end of February will be another of those dates.
