Theresademoninme captured the Open Trot at Dover Downs for on Tuesday night (Dec. 17).
Majestic Marvel, the 9-5 race time favourite, left alertly, but had to earn that lead. Driver Tyler Davis pushed Homen Dry to park the favourite past the quarter pole before yielding soon after. The fractions were :27.3, :55.4, 1:25.2 and 1:54.4 over a sloppy race track.
Trotting up the backside, it may have been divine intervention as both Majestic Marvel and Homen Dry went off stride. Corey Callahan took advantage of the misfortunes, and guided Theresademoninme away from any trouble, then took the lead. They were able to hold off the late charges of Royal Becca J, who skirted down the inside in the stretch. Royal Becca J, driven by Jack Parker Jr. and trained by Carol Jamieson Parker, finished second. Filled Donut and driver Art Stafford Jr. for trainer Eric Ell, applied pressure in the deep stretch and finished third.
Dylan Davis conditions Theresademoninme for owners Taylor, Casalino Jr and Dr. Thomas Lazzaro, who passed away last week.
Wiggle it Jiggleit and Wakizashi Hanover continue their come back bids on Thursday, Dec. 19 at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
