The top mares in Atlantic Canadian harness racing are set to renew their rivalry on Saturday, Dec. 16 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Saturday afternoon card has 13 dashes scheduled with a 12:30 p.m. start time.

The $3,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred is carded as Race 12 of the day with Tobins Brownie the favourite off the rail for trainer-driver David Dowling and owners Brittany Dowling, Sandra Weeks and Erroll Burgoyne of Springvale, P.E.I. The former Atlantic champion filly is one win shy of 30 races lifetime after beating this class last week in a head decision over Sugar Bowl.

Sugar Bowl has post five this week with Jason Hughes driving his trainee for owners Tommy Collings and Brian MacPhee of Mount Stewart, P.E.I. The Sweet Lou four-year-old has made 10 visits to the winner’s circle so far this season.

Post two sports Acefortyfour Dome from the Hughes barn. Mark Bradley picks up the catch-drive behind the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series champion for owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I.

D Gs Elsa has post three from the Luke Burke stable for owner Robin Burke of Brackley, P.E.I. and driver Ken Murphy. The mare has proven she can never be counted out in this class after winning at 37-1 at this level earlier in the season.

Dreamfair Zenfire holds down post four with Marc Campbell driving for trainer Brent Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I.

Chelski rounds out the entries from post six for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Jennifer Doyle. The Rollwithitharry mare is owned by Nova Scotia's Jeff and Robert Skinner.

The Post Time Picks has selected Sugar Bowl to win: “Sugar Bowl has been winning or really close in her last six. That second-place effort last week was incredible. This is a talented field but she’s on top of my ticket.”

Race 7 is the Cardigan Feed Services Ltd. Pace with Indywheelbarrow placed on top of the classifier’s choices from post six. Brett Clow drives the Panspacificflight mare for owner-trainer Luke Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.
